AQUILANI v ALONSO

IF you haven't found time to go to YouTube and type in 'Alberto Aquilani' what have you been doing? Second thoughts don't answer that...

But in case you still don't know quite what to expect from our new midfield man when he pulls on a red shirt in October, watch the film above, expertly made by 'MilanKakaBaros' at FootyFilms. And if you're still drying your eyes after we ripped Madrid off for Xabi Alonso, well the film below is for you. Enjoy.

Irrespective of whether Alonso is worth £30m or not, based on last season, his departure is a big loss for the team. Last season Alonso was awesome at controlling the tempo of games and probably made fewer misplaced paces than Lucas has in two games! That said he didn't score us many so hopefully Aquilani will get into the box a hell of a lot more and give us something extra. Even without Xabi, we've still got a great chance this season - YNWA!

Mr Controversial above,
You have said nothing that we all know already. In Rafa We Trust is the motto. He's bought a lot of fringe planyers that havent worked out to be super stars b ut they have done the squad job with little money to spend. When Rafa spends big its gonna be worth it. His trust in Lucas is also going to prove a lot of people wrong.

Stupid comment...Alonso was great, but he wanted to go. The reasons may be plenty, but he is gone and now he walks 'alone'. Support Lucas-he is a great and talented player-just like you sing - Lucas is ours and he should not walk alone - all he needs is a little confidence and players getting used to his style - rather than Alonsos.

Lucas had a 93% pass completion rate against Stoke so get off the kids back and stop pining for a player who wanted to leave (he felt he wasn't wanted/Rafa tried to get rid last season or what ever fill in your own reason) and was never going to stay when R. Madrid came in for him. Lucas was also getting into the box and mad some good attack minded passes. Aquilani on the other hand, well if he is half the player the youtube clips (I know you have to take these clips with a pinch of salt thats why I said IF) then we will have bought an exceptional player who may even turn out to be a bargain at £20m. So lets not write off the lad before he's even kicked a ball in anger, sure Alonso will be missed but that chapter is over and it's time to start looking to the future and to 'Walk on with hope in our hearts'.

You have got to get real Lucas is a country mile behind alonso he is an average player with a good engine but that's it. Maybe this new boy can replace alonso but it won't be like for like. I think he will be a quality player for us and get goals.

No one is trying to say Lucas is at the same level as Alonso all they are trying to say is cut him some slack it's not his fault Alonso left, he deffinatly improved towards the end of last season and can improve this season. Lucas may might not have Alonso's passing range now but that dosen't mean he can't develope it, remember he's only 22 and still has a lot to learn and with Rafa's help and the support of the fans I'm sure he will.
Liverpool fans never booed or singled out our own players for abuse in the past they always supported them. Alonso has gone and more importantly wanted to leave, so ask yourselves this question what would you have done in that situation if you were the manager;
Keep a player who clearly didn't want to play for your team any more.
Keep him and hopes he comes round.
If you do sell him who would you try to buy to replace him (and please be realistic and use the transfer funds available to Rafa and not say Kaka, Fabregas etc).
Out of the current squad who would you put in that possition.
Or would you change the formation to acomodate the change (change a formation that helped the team score the most goals in the prem last season).

Sorry, but these 'fans' that call our players - especially players who are young and still learning are not fit to wear the LFC shirt. Don't get me wrong, everyone is entitled to their opinion, but why be so extreme with it? Fact Lucas is not YET as good as Alonso - but he IS young, he IS improving and he IS already a good player - ever thought all the negativity is adding to his nerves?
Football is being ruined in this Country by too many simpletons talking garbage in the press (including the web) - as many have said, TRUE fans get behind their players and their teams. Through thick and thin. If you can't go support Arsenal or Utd...

Alonso wanted to go. £30M is a great price. What analyse whether we should have sold him. Its uterly pointless. I hope Rafa has got the replacement right in Aquilani, The videos look good. Lucas is improving.

I loved Alonso, his name is on the back of my shirt, but I always wanted more. Its a plain fact that when Gerrard was out and you wanted Xabi to take up the reins, he rarely did. He had a great season but he wasn't the best player.

awesome videos... gotta say that after watchin the first one I thought... get in RAFA cant wait for the new italian stallion to rock the prem. However, then I watched the second and couldnt help but feel these are massive boots to fill!! Good luck aquilani, cant wait to see you. IN RAFA WE TRUST!
I am as patient as they come, but with a certain Lucas.... he is not cut out to be a regular in a top 4 club. Would he get into Mancs, chelsea or arsenals midfield? he prob woldnt make their bench. As a midfielder you gotta be able to at least pass, shoot, tackle,or sprint. He doesnt excel in either. Mancs got Fletcher, Chelsea got ballack, Arsenal got diaby, they are all better and arent the regulars!!!
Wake up guys.. when is the last time you saw a brazilian midfielder with so little ability??? I am sure he is estonian really!!

I agree with the second comment, when Rafa spends big on a player he wants it usually works out, Keane is smudge on the radar screen, whether you want to count him or not I dont know. No-one seems to know the real story with that. you look at Rafa's big money signings(over 10m)
Fernando Torres(20m)
Johnson(17m)
Robbie Keane(18m)
Alonso(10.7m)
Ryan Babel(11m)
Mascherano(15m)

My Italian mate who is Juventus fan says Aquilani is and I quote "The best Italian midfielder"

btw i was lazy my last point was to show we got the likes of Riena, Aurelio, Agger, Skrtel, Yossi, Dirk, Luis Garcia, Crouch, Pennant, Lucas, Bellamy, most of them for WELL under 10m
u need to spend big money to get the quality
Although have to admit wish we still had Crouchy

Matches are won by Goals and not by standing long range passes....Here AQ is better than XA.

ur squad looks pathetic. many say arsenal would be out of top 4 but isay u are the one to get thrown out of the top 4.
if stevieg and torres are out injured then u guys will cry like babies.

Erm - regular first teamers out:

Arbeloa
Alonso
Hyypia (not that regular)

Regular first teamers in:

Johnson
Aquilani
Kyrgiakos (not that regular)

As we finished second last year, how, anon, does this constitute a "pathetic" squad?!

how many worldclass players u have just two. if u expect johnson to shine against the likes of real, barca or united. Then u r fooling urself. that is y u r more famously known as liverfools.

anon is a manure fan!! not a clue!! blinkered to everythin but manure!! we beat manure without torres AND gerrard!! we only lost 2 games all season with one or the other missing.
but when utd didnt have ronaldo and rooney they were shite as is proving this season, utd have lost there goal scoarer (ronaldo)
and the match winner in teves. move over utd our time as coMe again. this our best attack minded fearless team we had in a long time.

alonso and most of the foreign players are here for the money only - you want loyalty you must buy or invest in local talent.

as regards, aquilani that was the best deal ever made............... from roma.

20 million for a player who barely played 20 first team matches last 2 seasons is ridiculous.
apart from being an average player, his form has been going down for the past three seasons. you should have followed italian football not youtube. considering the amount of money benitez had available, he has a lot to answer for this decision. anyway benitez's track record in transfer season is not his strongest asset.

i'm tired of hearing about lucas ducas, for 22 he's young an still learning, and has 2of the best midfielders in gerrard an mascherano around him to learn from. Alonso was good to watch but he's gone get over it. you never get like for like an is a bit unfair to compare lucas with alonso.

Aquilani is a much better player than Alonso. Liverpool lacks of player who makes lots of off the ball running. If Arsenal signs him up...they would be very difficult to beat. But Aquilani has got to remains fit all season and adapt to English football quickly. I believe he can link up very well with Gerrard and Torres.

Alonso has gone - he wanted to. So get over it and support those who wear the red shirt and back them to do the business. Lucas is no Alonso but Lucas is a RED - that's all that matters. In Rafa we trust, in Liverpool FC the institution we believe.

How good was Alonso when he was 22? Give Lucas some credit where its due please.. Players evolve and adapt to the way teams play.. In a few years you may see Lucas spreading 50 yard passes.. who knows?? Thats the thing about football its a gamble!!
We sold Alonso at the perfect time, next season he wont come near the 30mill paid for him.. Same as Ronaldo.. will he be worth 80mill next year.. I doubt it..
Credit were it is due to Alonso as he was our best player last season, most consistent and most outstanding day in day out..

I'll judge the lad when I see him play for Liverpool. He looks decent and all the noises coming out of Italy say that hes a very good player but with a dodgy injury record. Youtube is not a good parameter to judge players (check out the one for Ryan Babel who looks like a world beater for Ajax!) but even that Mark Chapman (aka biased manc bellend) who presented Channel 4's coverage of the Italian football said we had bought an excellent player in Aquilani.
Personally I cant wait to see him play and if he can stay fit, who knows he may be the difference between 1st and 2nd.
Xabi will be missed but he wanted to leave and now hes gone. We need to move on, stop moaning about that fact and get behind the lads who are still here and want to play for Liverpool FC.

Look forward! Personally, I cant wait to see the new addition, as for lucas, keep up the good work lad and dont let the nubbins get ya down. Whatever ppl say, Liverpool have more about them as a TEAM, not a one man ARMY!

I'm sure the team will do the fan proud! Come on!
